Pimped Victorian Monitor

The inexorable march of technology has rendered my 4:3 aspect ratio 19" LCD mod and my pump-less water cooled PC obsolete, so when I saw at 24" wide screen monitor on sale for $299.00 I grabbed it with the intent on making a Steampunk All-in-One PC.

Cupcake Cutthroats: A Cakesploitation Film

Thanks to Lady Buttercream, whose transfats run free. She promised the most ridiculous thing I'd see all week and -- well, you can decide if she delivered.

kaiser pickup

kaiser pickup

While Ford was first to market with the pickup-cum-car Ranchero, and El Camino has attained universal descriptor status, like Kleenex, it looks like Kaiser presaged the idea in 1954 with this one-off. Kaiser was one of many smaller independents that had yet to die off in the early 1950s. The independents were often more creative than the big three, pushing innovation with limited resources. This extra-special Special-based vehicle is sporting “Barris Kustom” badges on the B-Pillars, glossy light yellow paint on the flanks, and a iron-irrific Continental L-head 6 underhood. You may not be torching the wide whites off the Kelsey Hayes wires with the 118 horsepower, but it’s definitely adequate, even on today’s roads.

Indian Motorcycle Select

The Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company was a motorcycle manufacturer in Springfield, Massachusetts. Indian was America's oldest motorcycle brand and was once the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world. The most popular models were the Scout, made prior to WWII, and the Chief, which had its heyday from 1922-53.

pimp my cpu

The Steampunk Keyboard looked terribly anachronistic sitting in front of my Dell 1907FP flat panel monitor and while I hesitated to tear open a $300 monitor that was still under warantee, art must be served.

vintage pinup art by baron von lind

vintage pinup art by baron von lind

Born in Duluth, Minnesota in the year 1937, Jerry 'Baron' von Lind was the fourth son of Alma & Hjalmar von Lind. His father Hjalmar was born the son of Baron Johann von Lind in a small town outside of Stockholm, Sweden.

After several years in the military Baron embarked on a career in the field of art. That career encompassed several facets of the commercial art field including advertising, editorial art, calendars & portraits. Baron worked his way up through the ranks at studios in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. In doing work for several calendar companies including Shedd-Brown and Brown & Bigelow he came in contact with some of the legendary pin-up artists of that time...Gillette Elvgren, Frtiz Willis & Bill Medcalf. Inspired by these greats, Baron pursued a style reminiscent of these immortal artists...which he continues to this day in his studio in southern California. The renewed popularity of this vintage art has inspired him to create new and exciting images for today's collectors. He paints in oil on canvas...trust me these luscious ladies look even more delectable in real!

Do you remember the old days when everybody used cassette tapes? Yes? No? Doesn't matter. The cassettes are coming back! This time they will serve us as portable USB drives :) And you can design them either just like those home made mixtapes ;) Make it for you, make it for someone else, make a MIXA.

Apple QuickTake 100 Digital Camera

Apple QuickTake 100 Digital Camera

Apple is not a brand most people associate with photographic equipment, but that didn't stop them from entering the digital camera market with the QuickTake 100 in early 1994. This 1 lb (454g) binocular-shaped digicam was designed in cooperation with Kodak and Chinon and included 1MB of flash memory that could hold eight "high resolution" 640x480 color images.

It was powered by three rechargable AA batteries and included a Macintosh-only interface cable. The viewfinder was optical; the built-in LCD screen was for status information only. With a list price of almost $750, Apple found it extremely hard to compete with established camera brands like Canon and Sony. The PC-friendly QuickTake 150 was released in 1995 and a more camera-like QuickTake 200 (manufactured by Fuji) was released in 1997. Steve Jobs killed the QuickTake product line (along with other quirky products like the Newton MessagePad) when he returned to the company in 1997.

I suspect there's a thriving underground cult of QuickTake users, but I've yet to stumble upon their lair.
