The Playboy snowboards sold at a local ski shop in Burlington, Vt., featuring naked women are drawing protests from parents and others, such as the Girl Scout Council of Vermont, which is considering taking its concerns to state lawmakers, The Boston Globe reported Monday.

“When you really think about it, it’s a young man standing on top of a naked woman’s body,” Nicole Zarrillo, 38, an office manager for a Burlington nonprofit told the newspaper. “I probably could have gotten past it, because I try to have an open mind, but seeing it like that, it’s offensive.”

In a bizarre incident that will surely lead to litigation (or an out-of-court settlement), a skier at Colorado’s ritzy Vail resort was left dangling upside down and pantsless from a chairlift last Thursday morning. The January 1 mishap apparently occurred after the male skier, 48, and a child boarded a high-speed lift in Vail’s Blue Sky Basin. It appears that the chairlift’s fold-down seat was somehow not in the lowered position, which caused the man to partially fall through the resulting gap.

Magistrate Brian Maloney gave 19-year-old Cody Heap a stark warning about jail life in an attempt to scare the youth into good behaviour.

“You’ll find big, ugly, hairy strong men (in jail) who’ve got faces only a mother could love that will pay a lot of attention to you - and your anatomy,” the magistrate said.

Heap appeared at Downing Centre Court in Sydney and was charged with driving without a licence, failing to stop at a police alcohol check point and driving dangerously.

Criteria for this list: This is not a list of ‘iconic’ SFX shots, such as the opening shot in Star Wars or the final shot in Back To The Future, etc. There are many fantastic SFX shots in cinema history that are artistically ‘awesome’ without qualifying here. For the purposes of this list, a shot has to be either a) exceptionally convincing, b) ground-breaking or c) an exemplary execution of an oft-used technique. Only one shot is allowed per film.

An airline passenger forced to cover his T-shirt because it displayed Arabic script has been awarded 240,000 dollars in compensation, campaigners said Monday.

Raed Jarrar received the pay out on Friday from two US Transportation Security Authority officials and from JetBlue Airways following the August 2006 incident at New York’s JFK Airport, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) announced.

“The outcome of this case is a victory for free speech and a blow to the discriminatory practice of racial profiling,” said Aden Fine, a lawyer with ACLU.

Jarrar, a US resident, was apprehended as he waited to board a JetBlue flight from New York to Oakland, California, and told to remove his shirt, which had written on it in Arabic: “We will not be silent.”

The Total War series takes to the seas with 3D naval combat in this 18th century strategy game.

SEGA has released a new gameplay trailer for Empire: Total War, showcasing the next installment in the Total War RTS franchise, now set in the 18th century, a period alive with global conflict, revolutionary fervour and technological advances. The game is under development at The Creative Assembly and for the first time ever it includes 3D naval combat situations. Empire: Total War will hit the store shelves in early March 2009.
